29 reasons we're down with breakfast for dinner

Sometimes, it's just the ticket. It's deliciously naughty. It's bending - or hey, totally smashing - the rules. Hello, breakfast for dinner.

We're completely down with "brinner" - breakfast for dinner (or even, in some places, "brupper" - breakfast for supper). It's FUN to play with the rules, to eat what you really feel like, to break up the routines. There was even a book published this year .  Now, if you're thinking we're talking tipping stuff from a box into a bowl, adding milk and digging in, well sure, that's a quick fix that more than a few of us might admit to. But here are ideas that take breakfast for dinner into far tastier territory, from hearty congee bowls to quick eggs and pancake stacks that don't even pretend to be dinner.

Eggs are always excellent

Eggs are like the friend who is somehow chipper and chatty both at the start of the day and late at night. Eggs do breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and snacks.  There's the omelette - the quick option. This omelette au Beaufort from Gabriel Gaté includes diced potatoes and two types of cheese, for a satisfying supper.

Some dishes are naturally  just at home at breakfast as they are at dinner. This Burmese soup is traditionally served for breakfast. But, as Luke Nguyen says, you can eat it at any time of the day - and you can choose to make a chicken or vegetarian version.

A play on the traditional khao tom gung (rice congee), Thailand's beloved king of breakfasts, this version uses brown rice, which does not break down completely, resulting in a satisfying congee with grunt.

If you can't decide which quick breakfast-for-dinner you want, toast or eggs, this is the answer. It's pretty much an omelette sandwich, sold as street food in Korea for folk in a hurry.

Perhaps a pancake?

Traditionally, this fermented Indian crepe needs to be started several days in advance - it's well worth the effort, being tasty and nutritious (try our try potato-filled fermented ). But obviously breakfast for dinner is usually more impulse than planning, so here's a quick and easy - no fermentation or resting time, but plenty of flavour.
