As Guillaume travels along the French Atlantic he will discover the way of life in five of the unique regions that make this part of the world so special.

Beautiful bourgeois Normandy, also known as ‘the 21st arrondissement of Paris’ has so much to offer, including the world-famous Camembert cheese and the spectacular abbey of Mont Saint Michel.

The wild coast of Brittany is the ‘fisherman's basket’ of France, and Guillaume makes the most of the seafood as he discovers the lively scallop festival in Erquy, and journeys to the joyous island of Groix renowned for its friendly locals and tuna fishing heritage.
 
In the historic Pays de la Loire Guillaume enjoys Michelin dining in the city of Nantes, and visits Noirmoutier Island to try the world’s most expensive potato.
 
Decadence and refinement is the story of the Bordeaux region, home of the greatest wines and chateaux on the planet, and a spa where grapes are used for body rubs as well as drinking.

Guillaume’s journey finishes in the Pay Basques country, where he discovers the language and vibrant food culture of these proud people. Guillaume makes his way into the Pyrenees mountains to source local ingredients to make a feast for his new friends.

Each episode unveils the secrets of extraordinary culinary experiences, offering viewers an immersive and inspiring travel adventure. Guillaumes French Atlantic is a cinematic experience that is bound to surprise and entertain.

Episode 1 | Normandy

Airs 7:30pm Thursday 20 June 2024 on SBS

Immerse yourself in the picturesque beauty of Normandy as renowned chef Guillaume Brahimi takes you on an unforgettable gastronomic adventure in the premiere episode of Guillaume’s French Atlantic. The journey begins with a breathtaking view of the iconic limestone cliffs of Étretat, offering one of the most famous cliffside panoramas of the French coast. His exploration continues through the glamorous streets of Deauville, affectionately known as the "21st arrondissement of Paris." For decades, this vibrant city has been a playground for the rich and famous, and Guillaume takes us on a delightful tour of its captivating charm. As we wander through the bustling fish markets, Guillaume treats himself to a delicious bowl of mussels and fries, immersing himself in the local flavours.

Normandy, often referred to as the land of cream, boasts lush green farmland stretching to the horizon and thousands of dairy cows. It is a paradise for cheese lovers and Guillaume takes us on a delightful journey to a small Camembert producer. Normandy is also home to the region of Calvados, famous for the French spirit of the same name, and Guillaume enjoys a cellar tasting. Inspired by the experience, he crafts the French donuts known as beignets, infused with a splash of Calvados. His travels in this episode also take him to the picturesque town of Honfleur, a popular destination for artists and tourists; the awe-inspiring 10th-century abbey Mont Saint Michel; and the Michelin-starred restaurant Maximin Hellio.



Episode 2 | Brittany

In this episode, Guillaume takes viewers on a captivating journey through his ancestral home of Brittany, exploring the customs and cuisine that have left an indelible mark on his culinary journey. The adventure begins in the charming harbour village of Erquy, where Guillaume joins the festivities of the renowned scallop festival. Next, there’s a tantalising visit to a local bakery in the 18th-century walled city of Saint Malo for decadent Breton pastries. Brittany is also home to what some consider the world's finest butter and Guillaume embarks on an exclusive tour of the Jean Yves Bordier factory, where he witnesses the traditional wooden machine used to produce butter with an unmatched flavour and silky texture. With a generous helping of salted butter in his grasp, Guillaume pays homage to his grandmother's cherished dessert by preparing a sweet rice pudding with luscious salted caramel.

Guillaume also discovers the region's profound connection to its maritime heritage and savours some of the finest seafood, from Riec-sur-Bélon's labyrinthine rivers to the Isle of Groix's vibrant fishing traditions. The journey continues as Guillaume immerses himself in the cultural tapestry of Groix, indulges in delectable seafood preserves, and joins locals for rowdy sea shanties and a traditional fish stew.



Episode 3 | Pays de la Loire

Immerse yourself in the aquatic treasures of the Pays de la Loire and the Dordogne for an unforgettable exploration of the region's castles, culture, and cuisine, including the world’s most expensive potato. From the idyllic island of Noirmoutier renowned for its prized potatoes, to the exquisite Château de la Rochefoucauld with a staircase designed by Leonardo da Vinci, Guillaume uncovers the hidden treasures of the land. Along the way, he encounters exceptional local chefs, indulges in Cognac tasting, and immerses himself in the historical narratives that shaped these remarkable places. Inspired by the tasting of exquisite cognac and the region's medieval legacy, Guillaume expertly bakes a traditional Brioche Vendéenne — a hand-braided, sweet bread infused with brandy. This cherished delicacy has delighted palates since the Middle Ages. There's also a visit to the legendary Guerande salt flats, where ancient harvesting techniques are practised, and to the enchanting beach town of Saint-Jean-de-Monts.

Episode 4 | Bordeaux

Airs 7:30pm Thursday 11 July 2024 on SBS

Join Guillaume Brahimi as he immerses himself in the luxury and refinement of Bordeaux, exploring its regal architecture, indulging in signature dishes, and discovering the allure of the most exclusive wineries in the world. Guillaume starts his adventure with a leisurely stroll through Bordeaux city along the iconic Rue Sainte-Catherine, Europe's longest shopping street, before venturing deeper into Bordeaux's wine country and finding himself captivated by the beauty of Saint-Émilion. Later, the pinnacle of extravagance awaits as Guillaume sets foot in one of the world's most exclusive wineries – Château d'Yquem. Wine isn't all this area has to offer though, and his travels see him uncover the secrets of the region's finest caviar, and visit Cap Ferret, a premier holiday destination loved by the people of Bordeaux.


Episode 5 | Pays Basque

Airs 7:30pm Thursday 18 July 2024 on SBS

From Biarritz's luxurious charm and innovative gastronomy to discovering underwater-aged wine, and preparing a delicious Basque feast, this unforgettable final episode sees Guillaume delve into the captivating world of the pays Basque. Venturing into the majestic Pyrenees mountains, Guillaume arrives in the picturesque village of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, positioned near the Spanish border and frequented by over 30,000 pilgrims on their spiritual journey to the shrine of Saint Jacques in Santiago. Immersed in the rich spiritual heritage of the Basque country, Guillaume is welcomed into a local hostel for pilgrims, discovering the significance of this sacred month-long walk and experiencing the true essence of what it means to be Basque.

Later, Guillaume immerses himself in the heart of Basque village life, witnessing the exhilarating game of Pelota, the traditional sport that echoes through the lively squares. As the day unfolds, Guillaume ventures to the ancient harbour town of Ciboure to uncover the extraordinary flavours of Egiategia, a wine that has been matured underwater in sea vats for six months. In the picturesque town of Espelette, he explores the dynamic local markets and discovers the iconic Piment de Espelette, the fiery chilli pepper that adorns the walls of every corner of the town.
