Australian students join global strikes to demand urgent climate action

Thousands of Australian students will skip school today, joining peers around the globe, calling for the government to take urgent action against climate change.

Australian students are once again planning to walk out of schools to protest climate change inaction.

After thousands went on strike in December, even more are planning to join today's global event, inspired by a Swedish teenager. 

How did the youth movement start?

In August last year, 16-year-old Greta Thunberg began leaving school each Friday and sitting outside Sweden's parliament to call for stronger government action on climate change.
