Australian universities rank above Cambridge and Oxford in employability outcomes

The University of Sydney and the University of Melbourne are among the world’s top ten universities for employability outcomes for its graduates, according to the 2019 QS Graduate Employability Rankings released on Tuesday.

While the University of Sydney ranked number one in Australia and fifth in the world for graduate employability, the University of Melbourne ranked second in Australia and sixth in the world.

In addition to surveying more than 40,000 employers, the 2019 QS Graduate Employability Rankings move beyond employment rates and evaluate the affiliations of high-achievers, as well as work placement partnerships and employers’ connections with graduates.

 

 

 

“We are delighted that these rankings once again confirm our graduates are among the most sought after in the world,” said University of Sydney’s Vice-Chancellor and Principal Dr Michael Spence.

University of Melbourne Vice-Chancellor Glyn Davis said that the result was a testament to an ongoing, single-minded focus on delivering a world-class university education to each and every student.

“Our vision as a university is to deliver excellent graduates through a combination of broad undergraduate studies supplemented by postgraduate specialisation,” Professor Davis said.

“In doing so, we aim to excel in academic results and deliver the highest quality graduates. We are delighted that the latest employment rankings have reflected this goal.”

 

 

The University of Melbourne 

The QS Graduate Employability Ranking is based on five elements: employer reputation, alumni outcomes, and partnerships with employers, employer-student connections, and graduate employment rate.

MIT came in at number one globally, followed by Stanford, UCLA and Harvard.

University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney 

While the United States, the United Kingdom and New Zealand have introduced stricter student visa conditions, Australia introduced streamlined student visa processing in July 2016.Australia’s international student intake crossed the half a million mark for the year in February. The number of international students reached unprecedented numbers with more than 500,000 international students enrolled in more than 540,000 Australian courses.

While China continues to be the biggest source of international students at 31 per cent, Indian students comprised 12 per cent of the total intake.

The value of the international student market has increased 22 per cent since 2016 and is now worth $32.2 billion a year.
