Since the last semester, when the project was rolled out, the ‘stay at home’ directive has led to a wealth of ideas brainstormed by educators broadly for new ways of teaching.
The need to channel childrens’ energy into creative outlets while keeping them connected with peers, emerges even greater during Melbourne’s second ‘tougher’ lockdown and the Greek Community’s online music program aims to hit the sweet spot on that.
Students get to meet via video calls and learn traditional songs, how to play or make their own instruments and are encouraged to express through singing and dancing.
Thessaloniki-based musician, Maria Kourkourika, has also joined the educators’ team, taking part in remote teaching.
“The purpose of the classes is for children to connect with yet one more element of Greek culture and traditions: music and singing,” the program’s coordinators state, urging people to stay positive during the COVID-19 uncertain times.
“Even in the pandemic times, the glass can be seen half-full instead of half-empty,” they note.
