Menka (not her real name), an accountant by profession, was looking forward to the day when RDA Central West would open up applications for Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 489).

Not all the states offer the 489 program to the accountants. Therefore, it was a significant opportunity for Menka. However, the big-day only brought disappointment.

“I could not even apply. They published the requirements only on the same day and the occupation was open hardly for 12 hours.”

RDACW had opened the invitations for popular occupations like Accountants, Management Accountants, Human Resource Advisors, Analyst Programmers, Computer Network and System Engineers, and Chefs on August 20, 2018. There was a requirement of minimum two years of experience.

The program opened on 20 August 2018 and was closed for Accountants and Management Accountants as of 6:30 pm on 20 August 2018 as the maximum number of applicants had been reached.

“The program attracted a considerable number of applications even though the requirement was for the applicants to have minimum two years of experience and the pool of applicants should have been a little restricted due to this requirement,” says Chaman Preet of Melbourne based Migration and Education Experts.

RDACW on 21 August 2018 at 10.00 am announced temporary closure of its program due to the large volume of applications received. It announced on its website that Applicants that have “registered and paid before
the closing date and time" had been accepted.

The applicants have been directed to email their applications through with supporting documents.

Chaman Preet opines that a large number of applicants are waiting to apply for the limited seats.

“It’s about being at the right place, at the right time and taking swift action. Many applicants didn’t even qualify for as they could not meet the two-years-experience requirement however the amount of applications that the region has received, speaks volumes about the pool of applicants waiting to apply for the limited seats. It has made the process extremely competitive,” she says.
