Move over MCG, India is building largest cricket stadium of the world

The new stadium will exceed Melbourne Cricket Ground's capacity to sit 100,024 people.

Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Australia is officially world’s largest cricket stadium at the moment in terms of capacity.

Kolkata’s Eden Gardens is largest cricket stadium in India and holds the capacity to sit 66,000 spectators.

However, world’s largest cricket stadium is coming up in another Indian city.

On Thursday, Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) announced they are renovating Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad and the new structure will be built to accommodate atleast 1,10,000 spectators making it the largest cricket stadium in the world.

Melbourne Cricket Ground currently holds the capacity to sit 100,024 people.

GCA Vice President Parimal Nathwani handed over the Letter of Acceptance (LoA) to L&T Director M.V. Sathish who has been entrusted with the contract to build this large stadium.
Renovation work is expected to begin in a few days.
