36-year-old Arzu Baglar was cycling in Yarraville in Melbourne on Friday evening at 5.40pm when a truck driver made a left hand turn and struck her.

A mother-of-two died after she was hit by a truck which had an Indian driver at wheel, reported.

The truck was turning left into Somerville Road after travelling south down Whitehall Street, which runs along the eastern border of Yarraville Gardens.

Ms Baglar was on her way to Williamstown to visit a friend from her home in Moonee Ponds.

According to police, the 32-year-old truck driver is originally from India and officers are having trouble with a language barrier.

Ms Baglar is survived by her two daughters and husband.
Her death has prompted calls for better bike infrastructure in the city. Greens senator Janet Rice was quoted by saying, "It's still quite dangerous for cyclists and we clearly need to review the level of protection that cyclists have when they are travelling so close to trucks."
