29-year-old young bus driver who died in a tragic incident on Friday morning in Brisbane has been identified at Manmeet Alisher, a prominent member of the migrant Indian community in Brisbane.

Manmeet Alisher was popular within the Punjabi community in Australia as a singer and has performed at many community events. His facebook page is loaded with posts of his many performances.

The news of his death was shared by the Punjabi community on social media.

A 48-year-old man is in custody in Brisbane, after the driver was doused in a flammable liquid and set on fire.

Police say the attack on the 29-year-old driver at Moorooka appears to be random and there's no suggestion it's terror-related.

Superintendent Jim Keogh says one of three people who boarded the bus on Beaudesert Road at about 9am tipped flammable liquid on the driver and then set him alight, and the other passengers are lucky to have escaped with minor injuries.

A ‘heroic’ taxi driver pushed the back door open, risking his own life, to provide an escape route to passengers trapped inside the bus.
