A passionate Indian Australian cricketer Amrao Singh Grewal is having an impressive run in the domestic cricket circuit.

The stylish left-handed batsman and a medium pace bowler played for the Darwin cricket club and the City Cyclones in the NT Strike League played at the Marrara Cricket Ground from July 1-29.

Amrao, who scored 51 and 34 in the two T20 matches played, says he gained valuable experience while playing in the league.

“It was a dream come true to share ground with some 'real' big names of the Australian cricket,” he said. “I played for the City Cyclones under the captaincy of Josh Doyle. My favourite batsman David Warner was the marquee player for our team.”

The Strike League was a four-team competition, with each side playing eight T20 games and three one-dayers at Marrara Cricket Ground from July 1-29.

By winning the competition, the City Cyclones became the first team to qualify for the new T20 Premier Cricket Tournament to be played in Adelaide in March 2019.

Amrao Singh Grewal also provides coaching to budding cricketers at the Gillespie Academy in Adelaide.

“There’re many Indian Australian families who want to see their kids play cricket. I train them according to their needs where my role is to polish them as a player to the best of their abilities.

The 27-year old cricketer said his favourite cricket player is Indian captain Virat Kohli.

“He has skills to impress cricket fans around the globe. He is very passionate, a good leader and a really good batsman,” Amrao said of Kohli.
Amrao hails from village Kila Raipur in district Ludhiana of the northern Indian state of Punjab.

Cricket wasn’t his first love as Amrao also performed well in Athletics at a school level.

But once his uncle Amrik Singh Mangat saw his natural cricketing ability he nurtured him in that direction.

Amrao started his domestic cricket career in Adelaide where he is getting coaching from the former cricketer Andrew Duffield and Wayne Bradbrook .

Amrao is fast earning a reputation as a solid opening batsman, but his bowling is equally impressive.

“These days my focus is on the batting technique, bowling speed and physical fitness. Given my performance, I am very confident about my selection in the SA state team. But before that I aim to perform well at the Adelaide cricket league,” he said.

Such is his passion that Amrao aims for the Baggy Green and nothing less. “I dream of the day when I’d play for Australian Test cricket team,” he says in confidence.
