Indian woman found dead in New Zealand

A young woman visiting from Punjab has been found dead in an apartment building in Christchurch.

A young woman was found dead in an apartment building in Christchurch, NZ on the morning of 11th September.

Police have now released the name of the deceased as Tina Sharma.

According to The Indian Weekender, 28-year old Tina Sharma belonged to Ludhiana and was in New Zealand on a visitor visa from the last two and a half months. She was living with her husband in an apartment building on Selwyn Street in Christchurch.

It has been reported that emergency services were called to the apartment on Monday morning and when the ambulance arrived they found the young woman lying in the hallway and her husband trying to perform CPR.

“We are working closely with Ms Sharma’s family who are being supported by Victim Support and the local Indian Community,” Police said.

Police interviewed the husband on the same day and investigation is still ongoing. They have also conducted a forensic examination of the property.

A post mortem has been conducted but the cause of death is yet to be determined. Police have stated the death to be ‘unexplained’.
