The incident happened last Friday when a religious leader was visiting Melbourne to attend a special religious event at the Gurudwara.
According to the priest of the temple, when the youth found out that the Sikh religious leader was visiting the temple, they stopped by to get his blessings.
“Just like people bring their new car etc for blessings at a religious place, they wanted the religious leader to bless them so that everything goes smoothly for them. However, they didn’t realize they were breaking the law,” he said.
He told SBS Punjabi that when the religious leader held the gun, the youth took a picture and posted it on Facebook. That’s when some concerned member of the public raised an alarm and police was called.
“They checked everything and made their report. The gun was registered but should not have been brought to any public place and displayed openly like they did, let alone at a religious place,” said the priest.
He said that the police made a report and gave clearance for everything and handed it to them and closed the matter there.

However, the 28-year-old youth were issued with a stern warning against displaying a gun in a public place and also letting an unregistered person handle a weapon.
“It was a silly mistake by them which has been dealt with now. Things like this create unnecessary misunderstanding in the community,” said the priest.
