Right now, fewer than 50,000 rental properties are available across the country. Two years ago, that number was almost double. With the vacancy rate at a historic low, finding a rental property is tougher than ever. Understanding the process will give you a head start.

Typically, rental properties are unfurnished and require a one-year lease – which can often be extended.
Most properties are advertised on rental sites such as realestate.com.au, domain.com.au and rent.com.au, along with times to inspect the property and the weekly rental price.
It’s important to keep in mind that inspection times are usually 10 to 15 minutes long and are more crowded on weekends than during the week.
There are more than 800,000 real estate agents across Australia.
