Conchita Wurst to headline diversity festival

Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst will perform in Australia for the first time this weekend.

The Austrian star got a classic Australian welcome in Adelaide, cuddling a koala and getting close to some kangaroos.

She shines, even thrives, when millions are watching.  

But when faced with an audience of just one – a koala – Conchita Wurst admitted to feeling apprehensive.

“It was a beautiful experience,” she said. “I was a little bit nervous, because obviously I have never held a koala before – surprise!”

The Austrian star got a classic Australian welcome in Adelaide, cuddling a koala and getting close to some kangaroos.

Her epic performance of "Rise Like a Phoenix" helped her take out the title at last year's Eurovision singing contest in Copenhagen.

She’s in Australia for her first performance down under, here to headline Adelaide’s annual Feast Festival, celebrating gender and sexual diversity. 

This year, the festival coincides with the 40th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexual activity in South Australia.
