Ecuador earthquake: how you can help

With the death toll following the catastrophic earthquake in Ecuador continuing to rise, find out how you can help the survivors.

More than 240 people have been killed in a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck the coast of Ecuador on Sunday and many people are still trapped.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies have already deployed more than 800 volunteers and staff members to the affected areas to help in the rescue and search operations.

They are also working to provide psychosocial support and first aid, while the Ecuador Red Cross has mobilised hospital units and health teams.

A National Disaster Response Team has also been deployed to carry out an assessment of the humanitarian needs following the earthquake. 

The Ecuadorian Red Cross has started an Earthquake Appeal to raise money to support the relief effort.

Humanitarian workers from not-for-profit organisation CARE are also on the ground in Ecuador, assessing the situation.

The organisation has set up a fund to allow people to donate to support its work in the country.

UNICEF, Oxfam and World Vision have also set up donation points to support their disaster relief work, which includes providing shelter, food, clean water and health care.
