1704 TSITSIPAS STUNNED BY FABBIANO

Greek rising star Stefanos Tsitsipas, seeded seventh, was dumped out with a 6-4 3-6 6-4 6-7(8) 6-3 defeat by Italian Thomas Fabbiano.





1649 VESELY SHOCK FOR ZVEREV

Sixth seeded German Alexander Zverev suffered a 4-6 6-3 6-2 7-5 upset loss to Czech qualifier Jiri Vesely.

"It was a great match, fantastic from beginning to end," Vesely said. "Overall I think I played an unbelievable match without many mistakes.

"The pressure was a little bit on him, but he won the first set and then I started to play. I had nothing to lose anymore.

"After the second set the pressure came back on him. I tried to force it and all of a sudden I was two sets to one up. I think I have done really well today."





1626 VONDROUSOVA FALLS TO BRENGLE

French Open runner-up Marketa Vondrousova, who has not made it past the first round at Wimbledon in two previous attempts, was beaten 6-4 6-4 by American Madison Brengle.





1610 OSAKA KNOCKED OUT BY PUTINTSEVA

Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva stunned second seed Naomi Osaka 7-6(4) 6-2 to advance to the second round. The 24-year-old beat Japan's Osaka in straight sets in Birmingham last month.





1604 VETERAN KARLOVIC IN FULL FLOW

Ivo Karlovic, the oldest man to compete in the singles event since Ken Rosewall in 1975, eased past Italy's Andrea Arnaboldi 6-4 6-4 7-6(4). The 40-year-old fired 21 aces and 50 winners in the match.





1514 AUGER-ALIASSIME OFF THE MARK

Canadian teenager Felix Auger-Aliassime celebrated his country's national day with his first Grand Slam main draw victory, beating compatriot Vasek Pospisil 5-7 6-2 6-4 6-3.

The 18-year-old is the first man born in 2000 or later to win a singles match at a major.





1422 DJOKOVIC OVERCOMES KOHLSCHREIBER

Defending champion Novak Djokovic began his quest for a fifth Wimbledon crown with a 6-3 7-5 6-3 victory over Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber on Centre Court.

Djokovic's Serbian compatriot Janko Tipsarevic won his first match at Wimbledon in seven years by beating Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka 6-4 6-7(2) 6-2 5-7 6-2.





1405 HALEP MOVES PAST SASNOVICH

Simona Halep shook off an injury early in her opener and won five games in a row in the second set to overcome Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-4 7-5 in the first match on Court One since the installation of a new roof.

"It (the injury) could be an issue but I hope not. I need treatment now. I slid a little bit and felt a little bit of pain behind the knee and the foot," Halep said.

Meanwhile, Magdalena Rybarikova, a semi-finalist in 2017, beat 10th seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus 6-2 6-4.





1322 PLISKOVA CONTINUES GOOD GRASSCOURT FORM

Third seed Karolina Pliskova, who warmed up for Wimbledon by winning the third grasscourt title of her career at Eastbourne, fought off a late comeback attempt by China's Zhu Lin to prevail 6-2 7-6(4).





1221 ANDERSON TOO GOOD FOR HERBERT

Last year's runner-up Kevin Anderson, making his 40th major appearance, eased past France's Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-3 6-4 6-2. Unseeded Spaniard Feliciano Lopez joined him in the next round with a 6-4 6-2 6-4 win over Marcos Giron.





1157 WAWRINKA OFF TO STRONG START

Swiss Stan Wawrinka, who was beaten by Dan Evans in the second round of the Queen's Club tournament prior to Wimbledon, wasted little time getting into top gear as he powered past qualifier Ruben Bemelmans 6-3 6-2 6-2.

Roberto Bautista Agut also advanced with a 6-3 6-2 6-3 win over Germany's Peter Gojowczyk.

Home hope Heather Watson was the first Briton through to the second round with a 7-6(3) 6-2 win over American teenager Caty McNally.





1120 KEYS, SVITOLINA STROLL INTO SECOND ROUND

Madison Keys, seeded 17th, made short work of Thailand's Luksika Kumkhum winning 6-3 6-2 to reach the second round while Elina Svitolina handed Australia's Daria Gavrilova a bagel en route to a 7-5 6-0 victory.





1000 PLAY UNDER WAY AT WIMBLEDON

Play began in bright sunshine with the temperature hovering around the 20 degrees Celsius mark and a forecast high of 22C.

Defending men's champion Novak Djokovic begins the defence of his title on Centre Court against German Philipp Kohlschreiber at 1200 GMT.
