Friends have paid tribute to a gay couple from Canberra who died on a water raft ride at Dreamworld theme park on the Gold Coast.

Roozi Araghi and his partner Luke Dorsett, 35, were killed when their raft flipped on the Thunder River Rapids ride on Tuesday afternoon.

Mr Dorsett's sister Kate Goodchild, 32, and another woman believed to a 42-year-old New Zealand expat also died in the accident.
The couple lived in Canberra and had been on holiday in the Gold Coast.

Their friend Douglas Robinson said they were both really amazing guys.

"Canberra is a very small gay community, everyone knew them or knows someone who knew them," he said on Facebook.
Others paid tribute to Mr Araghi, who worked at the Australian Bureau of Statistics and used to write music reviews for LGBTI website Same Same.

The ABS issued a statement saying Mr Araghi would be missed.
"The ABS is devastated by the tragic loss of Roozi Araghi, one of our dedicated, professional hardworking team members, who was very popular and well-regarded," the statement said.

"His loss is deeply felt, and our thoughts and wishes are with his family and friends.
"Roozi worked in our communications team, and was helping with the organisation-wide transformation of our statistical processes.

"He had the rare ability to communicate complex and technical matters in a clear and easy to understand manner, while also bringing a lot of joy and fun to the workplace."
On social media, Michelle Lewkowicz said, "Thinking of you Roozi and all the times you made me laugh, smile and corrected my grammar! You are a one of a kind and I know you will bring sunshine to heaven!R.I.P. xoxox"

"He did have a good life here in Canberra with his partner Luke. He never backed down from who he was and what he loved. A brave man," Michael Googan said.

Hilary Kincaid remembered Mr Araghi from their student days. "He was a gentleman. Witty, smart, kind. Obviously loved his partner and his family very much," she said.
