A police officer has been arrested five months after the fatal shooting of Yamatji mother Joyce Clarke in Geraldton, Western Australia in September last year.
This morning, WA Police released a statement and confirmed Major Crime Division officers attended Geraldton and arrested a police officer as a suspect in relation to the fatal shooting of Ms Clarke.
“No charge has been preferred at this time,” the statement said.
“As this is an active investigation further information cannot be provided at this time and updates will be provided when possible.”
Members of Ms Clarke’s family have been notified of the officer’s arrest.
The officer who shot Ms Clarke has never been publicly identified.
In September last year, Ms Clarke was shot by WA Police responding to a call out in Geraldton, four hours north of Perth.
Ms Clarke sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach and was taken to Geraldton Regional Hospital but later died.
The Yamatji woman’s family claimed they had called police to help in relation to Ms Clarke's ongoing mental health condition.
WA Police confirmed there was a total of eight officers on the scene when Ms Clarke was shot.
The WA Police Commission said there was no footage of the incident and f to Geraldton and surrounding towns, which are currently being operated in the area.
Ms Clarke was laid to rest in November. WA Police previously said her death is being treated as a death in police presence.
