'Am I in the Twilight Zone?' Judge’s fury after black woman refused pants

A US judge has reacted with fury after a female African American prisoner was forced to appear before her in court without pants and learns she had also been denied feminine hygiene products by Kentucky prison officials.

“Excuse me? This is outrageous. Is this for real?” Judge Wolf reacts with outrage after prisoner brought in without pants.

Judge Amber Wolf was sitting in a Louisville District Court on Friday when a woman was brought before her without pants. After learning that the woman had been been without pants for the three days she had been in jail and had also been denied feminine hygiene products, the judge vented her rage. The incident has been caught on video.

“Excuse me? This is outrageous. Is this for real?” Judge Wolf asked in shock.

The Judge then picked up the phone to call a corrections official and asked: “what the hell is going on?”

She then demanded that officers get “something to cover up” the prisoner. “Anything, I don’t care what it is,” she can be heard saying.

“Am I in the Twilight Zone?”
Metro Corrections Deputy Director Dwayne Clark then brought the woman clothing and added: “she should have been changed into a jumpsuit. I gotta look into why she wasn’t.”

Judge Wolf then expressed her incredulity at the woman being given a 75 day prison sentence for failing to attend a diversion program after a first time shoplifting offence from back in 2014.

She apologised to the woman for her treatment, released her with a $100 fine and ordered that her time had been served.

“The fact you’re in custody is your fault ― you gotta come to court,” the Judge said. “The rest of this is completely inhumane and unacceptable, and I’m incredibly sorry you had to go through this.”

Jail officials claimed that the woman was wearing “athletic shorts” and had not been in custody long enough to be given a jumpsuit. It is not clear from the video if this is true.
