Triple J broadcaster Brooke Boney will join the 'Today' breakfast show, making her one of the few young Aboriginal women to appear on commercial television.
Ms Boney, a proud Indigenous Gamilaroi woman from Muswellbrook, northern NSW was previously a news reader for Triple J breakfast for two years, but left that role in late November.
During her time at Triple J, Boney was known for opening every bulletin by saying "Yaama", which translates to "Hello" in the Gamilaroi language.
She will be the entertainment correspondent for Nine, working closely with Richard Wilkins, the entertainment editor.
"I’m really thrilled to be joining the team and so excited to be working alongside Richard Wilkins," Brooke said in a statement on Friday. "It’s such an exciting time to be joining Nine and I am looking forward to learning from everyone on the Today team."
Ms Boney has previously worked at SBS and NITV, with the appointment to Nine her first on commercial television.
On Tuesday, 'Weekend Today' co-host Peter Stefanovic was released from Nine after his contract came to an end and his brother Karl Stefanovic lost his position as co-host on the breakfast program 'Today'.
