True crime series, Cold Justice returned to NITV , with journalist Allan Clarke investigating suspicious Indigenous deaths in a brand-new season.
Cold Justice is a unique and thrilling Indigenous crime series – the first of its kind in Australia. The series is a raw and unfiltered look at the injustice Indigenous Australians face when it comes to unsolved deaths.
The award-winning first series investigated the 1988 death of Aboriginal teenager Mark Haines who was found dead on railway tracks in Tamworth, NSW.
Allan’s reporting on the unsolved death of Mark Haines lead to the Oxley LAC reopening their investigation into the case after 29 years. This year, on the 30th anniversary of Mark’s death, the NSW Police announced a $500,000 reward for any information that could solve the case.
Over four weeks, the second season of Cold Justice will investigate the unsolved deaths of Stephen Smith, Theresa Binge and Lois Roberts. The new season will give these Indigenous victims and their families a voice while holding the police and authorities to account of their investigations.
Presenter for Cold Justice, Allan Clarke said the families shared their most harrowing and traumatic moments of their lives which still remain raw today.
"Their trauma compounded by frustration with a justice system that has failed to deliver them closure. The question is does the justice system view Aboriginal victims differently?” he said.
Season Two Episode One: Stephen Smith case (Wednesday 21 February at 9pm)
17-year-old Stephen Smith was the most popular boy in school when he was found dead on a remote stretch of train tracks between Quirindi and Werris Creek in 1995 after attending a party.
The family allege that a police officer at the time told the family to 'get over it' and rumours that someone placed him on the tracks to make it like suicide have long persisted.
Cold Justice meets Stephen’s family who are now hopeful that justice will be served after people hear their story.
Episode Two and Three: Theresa Binge case Part 1 & 2 (Wednesday 28 February and Wednesday 7 March at 9pm)
In 2003, in the remote QLD/NSW border town of Goondiwindi, 43-year-old Aboriginal grandmother Theresa Binge went missing.
Twelve days later her badly beaten body was found dumped in a concrete culvert outside of town. Despite strong leads the investigation failed to find her killer. Fifteen years on, Theresa’s family are still desperately seeking answers. In this two part episode, we retrace Theresa’s last steps, uncover new leads and speak with authorities.
Episode Four: Lois Roberts case (Wednesday 14 March 9pm)
In July 1998, Lois was hitchhiking on the side of the road in Nimbin north NSW.
A witness saw Lois get into a white car, after that she was never seen alive again. Six months after going missing Lois’ decomposed body was found in a nearby rainforest bound in electrical cord.
Police believe that she had been held captive and kept alive for around 10 days, during which time she was tortured and sexually abused before being killed.
