#DefineAboriginal tops Australian Twitter trends

The trending hashtag calls on Aboriginal people to redefine what it means to be Indigenous in response to Pauline Hanson's claim that "there’s no definition to an Aboriginal".

The hashtag was created on Tuesday after One Nation senator Pauline Hanson made comments on ‘The Bolt Report’ on Monday night.

During discussion over s18C of the Racial Discrimination Act she claimed “there’s no definition to an Aboriginal” and that non-Indigenous people can become “Aboriginal” if they marry one.
The hashtag was generated by Ryan Griffen, the series creator of ABC’s Cleverman.
It quickly picked up traction with Aboriginal people sharing their pride in their Indigenous identity. While some responded with humour, many shared experiences of racism and the challenges they have faced as a result of their identity.
