Indigenous Health Minister Ken Wyatt brushes off election poster vandalism

Ken Wyatt says signs are being defaced as the coalition attempts to hold onto key seats in Western Australia.

Election posters for Indigenous Health Minister Ken Wyatt have been targeted by vandalism.

The Liberal MP, who is running for re-election in the marginal Perth electorate of Hasluck, shared photos on social media showing two defaced signs.

One of them was plastered with a union sticker.

“Every election the Labor and their union thugs make their way around defacing signs,” Mr Wyatt said in a Facebook post.

“I've had my face cut out completely, I've had signs ripped out of the ground, I've even had stakes stolen and reused for Labor signs.

“Another campaign's bus was set on fire. This can get violent and serious, and it must be rejected on all sides.”

On a “lighter note” Mr Wyatt said his “favourite technique” involved a rival candidate zip-tying signs onto his “to give it more structural integrity”.

This week, an election poster for Indigenous South Australian Greens Senate candidate Major 'Moogy' Sumner was defaced with a racist slur.

Posters of Tony Abbott with an offensive word written on his forehead were also taken down from a busy road in his Sydney electorate.
