Thousands of revellers in Melbourne will bring in the new year with a 14-tonne fireworks display.
The City of Melbourne announced its plan on Thursday to launch the fireworks from 22 rooftops at the stroke of midnight with more than 36,500 effects to shine.
It will be synchronised to a 10-minute soundtrack by Aboriginal hip-hop artist Briggs.
For those keen to hit the hay earlier, there is also a 9.30pm fireworks display at Yarra Park.
It will cost $3.4 million for the displays, despite just $235,000 of that will be spent on fireworks product, with the majority for operational, safety and security costs.
"With such a high volume of people in the city, it's important that we act respectfully and look after each other as we ring in 2019," Lord Mayor Sally Capp said.
Ms Capp said the city was working with Victoria Police, Emergency Management Victoria and the state government to make sure everyone had a safe night.
There will also be live sites at Treasury Gardens, Flagstaff Gardens, Docklands and Kings Domain from 9pm with DJs, food trucks and a view of the midnight fireworks.
