A teenager has allegedly stabbed a Northern Territory cop in a remote indigenous community.
The 19-year-old man attacked the officer with a knife while being arrested at 2.30pm on Thursday in Maningrida, police say.
Two police officers had just put a prisoner related to the teen on a flight out of the Arnhem Land community, 500km east of Darwin, Commander Matt Hollamby says.
"After the plane departed, a man threw a large rock at a police vehicle," he said.
While the police were arresting the teen he allegedly stabbed one officer in the stomach.
The police officer was taken to a local clinic with non-life threatening injuries.
He's currently in a stable condition and is likely to be medically evacuated to Darwin.
"Any assault on a police officer is completely unacceptable," Commander Matt Hollamby said.
"This officer is extremely lucky that his injuries are not worse and he has our full support."
The teen was taken into custody but is yet to be charged as members from the Serious Crime Squad travel to Maningrida to investigate.
