“I seen ‘em grab my son and he was screaming - I could see he was in pain the way they grabbed his arms – and I just automatically reacted as a mother would.”
The incident occurred in Brisbane’s north, after police were called out to a residence for an alleged domestic violence incident.
The video shows the distressed mother questioning why her 16-year-old son is being forcefully arrested, when the officer pushes her four times in an increasingly aggressive manner while yelling at her to "sit down".
The young man can be heard screaming in pain as he is being handcuffed and led out of the residence.
The mother then demands police get out of her house, but she is told to "sit down and shut up".
She replies with the words "make me" and the officer then says "sit down and do what you’re told" and finally asks a fellow officer for handcuffs and then to arrest her.
The mother told NITV News that the repeated shoving forced her back into a table.
“I just couldn’t believe that he was basically hitting me when they are against domestic violence.”
Police media released a statement confirming that they had responded to complaints of a domestic altercation and claim to have entered the home after hearing a woman scream.
“It is alleged that whilst investigating the matter, police were both obstructed and assaulted by persons in the house, resulting in four persons being detained.”
Both mother and son and two other residents were detained in the back of a police van for around 20 minutes before being released.
Police Media says that two residents were served with a Notice to Appear while two others face action under Youth Justices Act provisions.
While an official complaint is yet to be lodged, the incident will be reviewed by Queensland Police.
The video has gone viral on social media despite numerous Facebook users claiming that the social networking site has deleted their posts.
Facebook has been contacted for comment.
