Tributes pour in for Miss World Australia finalist Elyse Miller-Kennedy

The community of Dimbulah, in far north Queensland is mourning after a horrific crash took the life of 17-year-old Elyse Miller-Kennedy.

Family, friends, community leaders and Miss World Australia organisers have all paid tribute to the model.

On social media, there has been an outpour of messages of support, praise and thanks to the young lady.

The teenager spent the past week in Townsville Hospital’s intensive care unit, after suffering extensive injuries in a head-on collision on August 3.
Elyse was trapped in the car for two hours and then airlifted to Cairns Hospital, before being flown to Townsville.

Elyse gained her driver’s licence just five weeks before the crash.

It's believed that a pair of French backpackers driving on the wrong side of the road smashed into her car.

The St Stephen’s Catholic College student passed away on 12 August, in hospital surrounded by the people that loved, knew and cherished her the most, her family and friends.

A month ago, she represented Queensland in the Miss World Australia finals held in Melbourne before competing in the Miss World preliminaries in Thailand.

A tribute posted by Miss World Australia on Facebook said her "potential was limitless."
Current Miss World Australia Madeline Cowe says she befriended Ms Miller-Kennedy during her pageant journey and was in complete shock and that her life was taken too early.
Family friend Katrina Porter delivered the news on behalf on the family on the fundraising campaign page she has set up to help support the family.

"We are absolutely devastated to announce ‘Elyse Miller-Kennedy’ passed away yesterday afternoon at Townsville Hospital Intensive Care Unit, surrounded by beloved family and friends after losing her week long battle to live after a tragic head on collision on Wednesday 3rd August 2016."

Pageant organisers and her modelling agency, BLAK Model Management  offered their condolences.

Message from the family of Elyse Miller-Kennedy:

"Remember Elyse’s inner beauty, the warmth she showed to all, her humbleness during her journey throughout her larger than life experiences and of course the generous sweet soul and friend she was to so many."

They have also thanked the community for giving them "the respect and privacy they need to mourn the loss of their little girl."
