Renowned activist and broadcaster Vivian (Malo) Podesser has passed away in a Melbourne hospital after a long battle with breast cancer.
The Gooniyandi woman was surrounded by family who flew over from The Kimberley in the days leading up to her death.

3CR Community Radio station manager Rachel Kirby said the loss will be deeply felt.
“It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge the passing of our much loved and respected friend, Viv Malo,” Ms Kirby said.
“Viv was courageous and fearless in calling out fascism and racism, and whether on a rally stage or, on-air at 3CR, always spoke with passion, clarity and insight.
“We extend our love, support and condolences to Viv’s family and friends and especially Robbie Thorpe, her partner in life and on-air.”
Ms Podesser tackled issues like capitalism and colonialism as the host and producer of 3CR’s current affairs program ‘The Black Block’.
She was known as a fierce health advocate and champion for First Nations sovereignty, initiating Invasion Day protests, speaking at rallies and supporting human rights campaigns across Australia.
Moreland Councilor Sue Bolton said she feels privileged to have known Ms Podesser as a friend.
“When I attend the Invasion Day protest on 26 January and other First Nations protests, I will think of Viv,” Ms Bolton told NITV News.
“I know that Viv would be happy in the knowledge that the movement for First Nations rights is becoming bigger and stronger.
“She was such a huge inspiration for thousands of people. We will mourn Viv while trying to act in her footsteps.”
On New Year’s Day, Ms Podesser said her goodbyes to her friends on Facebook.
"Not sure if knowing when your time is up or not is a good thing but it is what it is, out of my hands and I accept my fate,” she posted.
“Be kind to each other (said the angry black woman)... at the end of the day, it's your family, dear friends and those that love you that truly matter.
“Enjoy this time in the Sun with yours."
Vivian Malo was 48.
