On a cold, windy day in northeastern France, Girmay had the most power in his legs to edge out Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) and Sam Bennett (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale), the Eriterean cementing his status as the best sprinter at the race with the green jersey still on his shoulders.
After becoming the first black African and native Eritrean to win a Tour de France stage, the 24-year-old from Asmara delivered once again to double up on his own record feat.

"To win one stage is already unbelievable, and winning a second stage while wearing the green jersey even more so," Girmay said following the stage.
"Torino was a very flat finish, and I knew some other guys could push more watts than me, so I wasn’t sure of my options. Today’s finish, on the other hand, was perfect for me and I was super confident.
"I've already won two stages and worn the jersey, so my Tour de France is already a success and I don’t care what comes next!"
Besides Girmay, the other star of the day was the polka dot jersey holder Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X Pro Cycling), who formed the day's breakaway largely by himself, riding out in front for a mammoth 170 kilometres with a gap of as much as 6 minutes to the peloton.
Crosswinds threatened the bunch at multiple points throughout the day, with some riders distanced in the final 20 kilometres, but the general classification was unaffected with Tadej Pogacar finishing safely in the yellow jersey.
