Papadakis and Cizeron are aiming to become just the second pair to win five world titles in ice dance history, and the first since 1976 when Lyudmila Pakhomova and Alexander Gorshkov (USSR) won six in seven years.
The French duo will be joined by Olympic rivals Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue at the Sud de France Arena, as well as Madison Chock and Evan Bates, with the Americans both finishing in the top four at the Games.
Not since 2012 has France hosted the Worlds, and their time in Montpellier will be without any Russian or Belarusian skaters after the International Skating Union announced no members "shall be invited or allowed to participate in international ice skating competitions".
The ISU's decision means Olympic champion Anna Shcherbakova will not be in action, as will Olympic pairs champions Sui Wenjing and Han Cong - the Chinese duo who opted out due to injury.
Russia and China's absence means the pairs field is wide open, with Americans Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier the favourite to take full advantage.
