As Pride Month kicks off in the United States, a group in Boston are organising a Straight Pride parade. Because of course they are.
The group, who call themselves , claim that Boston has a problem with heterophobia - and they're determined to do something about it. Having previously had their application for a Straight Pride parade rejected by the city of Boston, threats of a discrimination lawsuit saw the city agree to co-operate.
According to their website: "Super Happy Fun America is committed to creating spaces for people of all identities to embrace the vibrancy of the straight community."
It continues: "We believe that true diversity is only possible when people of all sexual orientations are free to celebrate their lifestyles."
The parade was first shared on social media by Assistant Managing Editor Carolyn Ryan of The New York Times, who tweeted a screenshot of the group's promoting the parade, which is planned for August 31, 2019.
According to the post, which was made by the group's Vice President Mark Sahady, the event will be “a patriotic parade in Boston" to help the local community "celebrate straight pride.”
"It looks like the Boston Straight Pride Parade will happen," Sahady wrote.
"The city is now working with us on the parade. We will have the streets closed and be allowed floats and vehicles."
The group, which appears to have three members, also includes a 'Gay Ambassador', Chris Bartley, who "uses his status in the LGBTQ community to challenge heterophobia wherever it exists."
According to their website, Bartley was previously "ostracized from established advocacy groups for merely suggesting that straight people be afforded equal rights."
