Laverne Cox has become the first openly transgender woman to grace the cover of fashion magazine Cosmopolitan.

The Emmy Award-nominated actor, who is known for her roles in Orange in the New Black and The Rocky Horror Show, has appeared on the cover of Cosmopolitan South Africa's February edition.

The edition places a focus on LGBTQI issues, and is titled 'Say Yes To Love' with the cover featuring a bright rainbow title.

The actress shared the cover on her social media this morning, saying she is "so honored and proud" to feature on the cover of the mag.
Cox also features in a candid video, a photoshoot, and a written interview alongside her cover appearance, discussing dating, her proudest career moment, and her battles with the ingrained heteronormativity of the entertainment industry.
Cosmopolitan South Africa’s editor-in-chief Holly Meadows the issue aimed to “disrupt heteronormative ideas around February and Valentine’s Day and look at love in 2018 - including acceptance of self, others and non-binary relationships.”

“Our goal was to play a small part in providing visibility for the LGBTQI+ community, of which Laverne has become a revolutionary icon."
