Actress Sandra Oh has made history, becoming the first woman of Asian descent to earn an Emmy nomination for Lead Actress.
She was nominated for her role as Eve Polastri, an M15 officer in the BBC America series Killing Eve.
"I'm struggling to find the right words for it," Oh told after learning of her historic nomination.
She continued: "I feel quite serious about it. What's a blend of the words 'seriousness' and 'joyous'? I'm absolutely thrilled. I feel my community at all times; I am my community at all times."
"I have joy not only for the show and myself and family, but also for my community. Hopefully my community can feel like they have representation as well."
Oh has previously opened up about her struggle to find meaningful roles in television, telling that she'd come to expect generic supporting roles as a friend or sidekick.
She said: “[It’s] a heartbreak that I feel for my community of Asian-Americans and people who are just not represented, who are not reflected.
“[I remember] quickly scrolling through my phone, trying to find my part [for Killing Eve], and I’m talking to my agent like, 'I don’t get it. What’s the part?'"
She added: “Because I was like, I can’t play an assassin, obviously it’s gonna be a young hot girl, I don’t get it, what’s my part?"
The Emmy Awards will take place on September 17th 2018.
