National Indigenous Television (NITV) and SBS are proud to announce the programming slate for NAIDOC 2020 – a week-long dedicated schedule to mark the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

From Sunday 8 November to Sunday 15 November, the network will be celebrating the best in Indigenous content and embracing the 2020 NAIDOC theme Always Was, Always Will Be, which recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years.

As the National NAIDOC Principal Media Partner and official Education Partner, this year’s multi-platform offering includes an exclusive musical event, Australia’s first Indigenous breakfast television program, a range of documentaries, movies and news and current affairs programs across the network, and education resources available to schools nationally to help students learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and history.

  • SBS is the official National NAIDOC Principal Media Partner and official Education Partner
  • Australian TV premiere of the first all-Indigenous breakfast television show, Big Mob Brekky
  • Special event Stand Up and Be Counted: A NAIDOC Concert Special to be simulcast on NITV and SBS
  • A curated collection of powerful dramas will air each night on NITV
  • NAIDOC educational resources available through SBS Learn
  • NAIDOC will be celebrated across all SBS channels, and programs available to stream at SBS On Demand through an exclusive NAIDOC collection
Director of Indigenous Content at SBS, Tanya Denning-Orman, said: “SBS are incredibly proud to be Australia’s multicultural and Indigenous broadcaster and, namely, the home of NITV. We are lucky enough to hold a very unique place in the Australian media landscape as a platform to share stories of First Nations cultures, communities and conversations with all Australians.

“2020 has been an enormous year for many reasons, and NAIDOC Week is the perfect time for the network to present a broad slate of our programs that encourage a deeper understanding of Australia’s shared history and shared future, and to celebrate together the achievements of First Nations Peoples.”
