Dublin Murders

Dublin Murders is drawn from Tana French's Internationally bestselling novels In the Woods and The Likeness. Set during the height of the Celtic Tiger financial boom of the millennium, the series focuses on two murder investigations led by ambitious and charismatic Detectives Rob Reilly (Killian Scott) and Cassie Maddox (Sarah Greene). When a 13-year-old girl has been found dead and put on display in the woods outside a nearby small town, everyone wonders if there could be a link to the high-profile disappearance of two children in the same woods 20 years ago. One child survived in the woods 20 years previously and it was Rob Reilly, he now finds himself investigating a case chillingly similar to the 20 year old unsolved mystery.

Tin Star

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Canadian Rockies, the wilderness is yet another powerful character in this smash-hit series. Starring Tim Roth as Jim Worth, and his troublesome alter-ego Jack, the former detective didn’t exactly find the peaceful life he was seeking for himself and his family in Canada. Season 2 picks up where season 1 left off – the Worth family left cut off, grieving and reeling from their ordeal in the oil mining town.

Each case has a touch of the mystical about it, revealing forgotten customs or regional myths.

Blue Murder

This look at the rise of corrupt Sydney cop Roger Rogerson (a career-best performance from Richard Roxburgh) during the ’70s and ’80s has been hailed as Australia’s best drama series ever. And with good reason; a range of compelling performances (most notably Tony Martin as career crim Neddy Smith, who Rogerson used as his underworld enforcer) and a note-perfect look at Sydney at its blokiest make this gritty series must-see on every level.

Agatha Christie’s Criminal Games

Who says murder can’t be fun? East West 101

This classic Australian crime series set a standard for police drama that’s yet to be beaten. In a post 9/11 world, Muslim Major Crime Squad detective Zane Malik (Dany Hany) has a lot to prove. Old school Detective Crowley (William McInnes) is increasingly out of touch, and he’s not happy about it. Together these two cops have to tackle crime – and each other - across the length and breadth of multicultural Sydney.

The Bridge

A body chopped in half and left on both sides of the border-spanning bridge between Denmark and Sweden. A single-minded cop who set a new benchmark for utterly focused (and socially awkward) detectives. A chilly urban setting that reflected the bleakness of the crimes faced by police on both sides of the border. There’s plenty of reasons why The Bridge is classic Nordic noir: despite numerous remakes around the world, the original is still the best.
