The eight-time Emmy® and two-time Golden Globe® award-winning dystopian drama series returns with a special premiere double episode 8.30pm April 26 on SBS and streaming on SBS On Demand, with new episodes following each Thursday.

The end of the intense first season saw Offred, one of the few remaining fertile women in the oppressive society of Gilead (formerly the United States) forced into sexual servitude as a ‘Handmaid’, falling pregnant before being ominously dragged off in the back of a van, her future uncertain.

The 13-episode second season is shaped by Offred’s pregnancy and her ongoing fight to free this future child from the horrors of Gilead. “Gilead is within you” is a favourite saying of Aunt Lydia. In season two, Offred and all characters will fight against – or succumb to – this dark truth.

This second season will expand the world of the Handmaids, with newcomers to the cast including Cherry Jones (Transparent, 24), Marissa Tomei, Clea DuVall (Veep), and Bradley Whitford (Get Out, The West Wing) joins as a Commander.

Among the returning cast are Emmy® and Golden Globe® award-winning Elisabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes, Australia’s Yvonne Strahovski, Alexis Bledel, Madeline Brewer, Emmy® award-winning Ann Dowd, O-T Fagbenle, Max Minghella, Samira Wiley and Amanda Brugel.

The Handmaid’s Tale 2 airs on SBS and SBS On Demand 8.30pm, from Thursday April 26. #HandmaidsTale
