The Tailings
In a remote West Coast Tasmanian town, teenager Jas (Tegan Stimson) undertakes a maverick investigation after her father Brendan, mysteriously dies. Her community are quick to dismiss the death as an accident, however refusing to believe this, Jas comes into conflict with new young teacher Ruby (Mabel Li), who has just arrived in town and comes carrying her own past trauma. Unexpectedly, Jas and Ruby built a mutual trust as they confront the layers of their grief and ultimately uncover the truth behind Brendan’s death.
Comprising 6 x 10-minute episodes (in the vein of Dylan River’s AACTA-Award winning series ) The Tailings is an SBS Original series filmed on Tasmania’s West Coast last year. We’d never leave you Nordic Noir-less. New crime drama from Norway, Outlier follows criminal psychologist Maja Angell, an acclaimed young academic working in London, who profiles serial killers. She believes police have arrested the wrong man for the murder of a child, but can’t convince them of it. Will she be able to find the murderer before he strikes again? Set in the striking beauty of Norway’s wilderness, this gripping series stars Hanne Mathisen Haga as Angell, who is part of the indigenous Sami community.
Mr Mercedes
Based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel and adapted by David E. Kelley, Mr Mercedes stars Brendan Gleeson as retired police detective Bill Hodges. When a demented killer begins to taunt him with a series of lurid letters and emails, Hodges is forced to undertake a private and potentially felonious crusade to bring the killer to justice before he strikes again. Under The Dome’s Jack Bender directs what NPR called an ‘engaging cat-and-mouse thriller’.

The A Word
Paste has described The A Word as ‘exceptionally authentic in everything it does’. We agree, and proudly deliver season 3, which begins two years from where we left the Hughes family: Paul and Alison, and children Joe and Rebecca. And Rebecca uncovers a secret of her own. This British series manages to be touching and poignant, and funny, too.
Dignity
Inspired by a true story, Dignity takes us to Chile just after Pinochet’s regime, and a violent Germanic cult called Colonia Dignidad, set up by former Nazi soldier Paul Schaefer. Young federal prosecutor Leo Ramírez is to bring the sect’s leader to justice after its decades-long history of torture, child abuse and murder. Leo is also motivated by his younger brother Pedro dying there in mysterious circumstances as a child. Schaefer paid for Leo’s education in Germany to keep him quiet, but now he is ready to tear him and Colonia apart. Matters are complicated by the arrival of someone who claims to be Pedro. Covering a fascinating and disturbing recent history, Marcel Rodriguez is compelling as Leo, as is Götz Otto as Schaefer, in this thrilling Chilean drama.
Masantonio
From the producers of comes Masantonio, an intriguing Italian crime drama set in Genoa. An astonishing 25,000 people go missing in Italy each year, and Elio Masantonio, a lone wolf of an investigator with a complex personality, is paired with police officer Sandro Riva to get inside the minds of the missing in the hopes of locating them. They’ll need their wits about them to uncover the mysteries that land on their desk. A strong pairing of leads, Alessandro Preziosi and Davide Iacopini co-star.

Deadwater Fell
Starring Cush Jumbo and David Tennant, this four-part crime drama set in Scotland is reminiscent of Broadchurch only ‘more irresistible’ according to The Guardian. A small community is riven with doubt and suspicion when a seemingly happy family is murdered by someone they know and trust. As those closest to the family begin to question everything they thought they knew about their friends, the investigation gets underway.

Are You Addicted to Technology?
An Australian-first interactive documentary, Are You Addicted To Technology?, made specifically for the SBS On Demand app, invites you to question and share the truth about your relationship with your mobile devices. Guiding your journey is Dr Huu Kim Le, a former gaming addict turned psychiatrist. Dr Le, who specialises in treating children with gaming disorders, says, “… the idea of living inside the Matrix isn’t so far from the truth. I’m seeing an ever increasing amount of patients with problematic relationships with technology.”
Dr Le will offer personalised advice to viewers from his virtual consulting room. From the data shared by viewers, Dr Le will assess how their habits compare to a national survey, the first of its kind conducted in Australia, providing cutting-edge original research into the state of our dependence on our devices. For example, the survey found that 1 in 3 Australians said they go online to forget about real life.
Dr Le also interviews endocrinologist Dr Ricky Arenson, Australian-born NYU Business Professor Adam Alter and lead researcher on the Gonski report Dr Amy Graham, to learn more, and we hear from Dr Sharon Horwood, designer and analyst of the survey data and specialist in problematic smartphone use.

Thin Ice
To add to your fix of Nordic Noir comes Thin Ice. The attack of a Swedish oil research vessel and the kidnapping of its crew lead intelligence officer, Liv, to the small village of Tasiilaq to investigate. There, she discovers rising tensions among local officials, on the brink of signing a treaty to prevent harmful oil drilling in the Arctic. Phone and internet connections to the town have been cut, and witnesses are being killed, all it seems, to prevent the treaty from being signed. Featuring Swedish and Danish languages, this series boasts a brilliant cast including Lena Endre (Kingsman: The Golden Circle, ), Alexander Karim (, ), Iben Dorner, Angunnguaq Larsen, Nicolas Bro (), Nukâka Coster-Waldau (), and Bianca Kronlöf (Underdog) as Liv.
The Handmaid’s Tale
We know so little about each season before it arrives, which makes watching The Handmaid’s Tale that much more exciting. What we can share is that June is a ‘fierce rebel leader’ this season, taking risks that ‘bring unexpected and dangerous new challenges’. But her mission to get justice and revenge begins to consume her, even threatening to ‘destroy her most cherished relationships’.
