The highly anticipated six-part drama series Years and Years, starring Emma Thompson, will premiere exclusively in Australia on SBS and SBS on Demand on Wednesday, 6 November at 8.30pm with a double episode. This will be followed by weekly episodes on Wednesdays at 9.30pm.

As Britain is rocked by unstable political, economic and technological advances, Years and Years follows an ordinary Manchester family, the Lyons, as their complex lives converge on one crucial night in 2019. Then, over the next 15 years, the twists and turns of their everyday life are explored against the backdrop of a political world in which the right and left are unrecognisable.

As society changes, faster than ever, the Lyons will experience everything that one hopes for in the future, and everything that is feared. Each episode jumps a year or two ahead, as the Lyons navigate their everyday hopes and fears in an unstable world, and they demonstrate a family’s determination to survive the future.

Years and Years will also be subtitled in Chinese and Arabic and will be added to the subtitled collection at SBS On Demand, immediately after the drama premieres on SBS.

The six-part drama series stars Emma Thompson (Love Actually, The Children’s Act), Jessica Hynes (Bridget Jones’ Baby, Paddington 2), Rory Kinnear (Spectre, Peterloo, and Brexit), Ruth Madeley (Cold Feet, Don’t Take My Baby), T’Nia Miller (Obey, Marcella), Anne Reid (Last Tango in Halifax, The Mother) and Russell Tovey (Quantico, Being Human).

Years and Years premiered to critical acclaim in the UK and the USA with The Wall Street Journal calling the series “Too close to reality to be funny, or black funny or even absurdly funny.”  The New Yorker called it, “an alarming series, in a literal sense: it’s meant to serve as an alarm, an alert to what’s going on in front of our eyes and where it might lead”. Forbes described it as, “essentially taking all liberals’ worst fears about what happens if the current state of politics, corporate greed and the destruction of the environment all stays on the current track we’re on”.

The series is created, written and executive produced by Russell T Davies (A Very English Scandal, Doctor Who, Queer as Folk) along with Nicola Shindler (Come Home, Queer as Folk, Butterfly) as executive producer. Directed by Simon Cellan Jones (Boardwalk Empire, Jessica Jones), Years and Years is produced by UK-based RED Production Company for BBC One, HBO and Canal+ and distributed internationally by Studio Canal.

Years and Years airs on SBS on Wednesdays at 9:30pm. Watch episodes one and two at SBS On Demand now.
