Two Indians killed in tragic car crash

Two occupants of the car that crashed with Freight Lines truck have been identified as Indian nationals.

Two Indian boys have died after the car they were travelling in, crashed in New Zealand on Tuesday morning around 8am.

reported two passengers died on the scene after a north-bound Freight Lines truck crashed into a white car, near Culverdan, approximately 100 kms north of Christchurch.

NZ’s community paper identified the two crash victims as 22-year-old Kamal Preet Singh from Punjab and 19-year-old Lovepreet Waraich from Haryana.

While Lovepreet was an international student in New Zealand and had arrived six months ago, Kamalpreet was on a job search visa.

Tributes flowed in from their friends and well-wishers on Facebook as news spread within the community.

The Indian High Commission in New Zealand said they had not yet been contacted by friends or families of the deceased but have sought further details. The High Commissioner to New Zealand, Mr Sanjiv Kohli told SBS Hindi, "We have sought coordinates of friends of the deceased. We will process the necessary documents and render all necessary assistance on a very priority basis. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families. It is heart breaking to note loss of two such young lives in a road accident."
