Created by Noah Hawley, each season of Fargo (based on the Academy Award-winning feature film by the Coen brothers) features an all-new 'true crime' story. They all follow a new case and new characters, all are entrenched in the trademark humour, murder and 'Minnesota nice' that made the film an enduring classic.

The production of the fourth season of Fargo was delayed because of COVID-19, but it is finally landing on our screens this October. And even though you don't necessarily need a catch-up, because these are standalone seasons, we couldn't resist bringing back seasons 1–3 before season 4 begins on SBS and at SBS On Demand.

From Thursday 17 September all episodes from seasons 1–3 of Fargo will be available to stream for free at SBS On Demand. That's 30 episodes featuring that fer sher sweet Minnesooooota accent (and all-star casts).

Season 1

The first season of Fargo features Billy Bob Thornton as Lorne Malvo, a rootless, manipulative man who meets and forever changes the life of small-town insurance salesman Lester Nygaard, played by Martin Freeman. Colin Hanks plays Duluth Police Deputy, Gus Grimly, a single dad who must choose between his own personal safety and his duty as a policeman when he comes face to face with a killer. Allison Tolman also stars as Molly Solverson, an ambitious Bemidji deputy.

Season 3

Set in 2010, the third season of Fargo centres on Emmit and his slightly younger and less successful brother Ray Stussy (both played by Ewan McGregor). Probation officer Ray and his parolee girlfriend Nikki Swango (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) dream of a better, wealthier life. To achieve this, they attempt to steal a valuable vintage stamp from Emmit – the self-proclaimed "Parking Lot King of Minnesota". That petty theft soon leads to murder, mobsters and cut-throat competitive bridge.

The couple has to hide their involvement in two deaths, including the stepfather of former Eden Valley police chief Gloria Burgle (Carrie Coon). Meanwhile, Emmit wishes to pay back a shady company he borrowed money from two years ago, but the mysterious company and its employees, led by V. M. Varga (David Thewlis) and Yuri Gurka (Goran Bogdan), have other plans.

Season 4

Set in the 1950s, season 4 of Fargo sees two criminal syndicates, one African-American, the other Italian, in an uneasy peace. It's a story of immigration and assimilation, and the things we do for money. And as always, a story of basically decent people who are probably in over their heads. You know, Fargo.

We are out of the snowy regions of North Dakota and Minnesota, and have travelled to Kansas City, Missouri where it's dog eat dog. The all-star cast continues with the fourth season and includes Chris Rock, Jason Schwartzman, Ben Whishaw, Jessie Buckley, Jack Huston, Uzo Aduba and Timothy Olyphant (just to name a few).
